First of all, we’d like to talk about Jbeil. Jbeil is a district in the Mount Lebanon Governorate which is located in the northeast of Lebanon’s capital Beirut. The Jbeil district holds a number of significant sites. The capital Byblos is an important historical and archaeological site boasting Phoenician, Roman, and Crusader ruins. The mountain village of Aannaya hosts the Saint Maroun-Aannaya monastery and the holy shrine of Saint Charbel.

Answer from IS4, Isendoorn College, Netherlands

Hello we are Rick Patrick and Mick, we really enjoyed  your question. Here we have 5 pictures

I have chosen this picture because you can see here mills and a polder (that is typical Dutch)

When you say the Netherlands the most people think about mills.

Mills are things that remove water out of the polders.

A polder is an place where the water is pumped away.71

The Netherlands is below sea level , the mills pumped away the water.

I have chosen this picture because it is the highest mountain in the Netherlands

It is not much. The highest point of the Vaalserberg is 322m high.

The Netherlands haven’t got much mountains this is one of them.

The Netherlands means lowlands that’s why we haven’t   got high mountains

These are the dunes. They hold back the water in the Netherlands. They consist of sand and beach grass grows on. In the Netherlands we have much dunes, people like to play on the dunes.

Dunes are sand with plants in it.

This is the Veluwe! We have chosen this picture, because  it’s a beautiful place in the Netherlands, with nice animals. Many people walk and cycle at the Veluwe because its wonderful and you could see many animals like birds.

This is green heart, it is in the middle of the Netherlands. It is a beautiful place.

It is in the middle of the Netherlands  they wanted to build highways, but many people protested against the highways .

Answer group 2:

In our whole country we have many different landscapes.

What we see are many pastures with cows, horses or sheep.

You will also find in Holland some mills.

The weather in Holland is also very variable.

It can rain the whole year, every season.

In the winter it can be very cold and if it is freezing enough we can skate on the ice and there is snow.

A special place in Holland is the ‘Waddeneilanden ‘(waddenislands) .Every day it is low and high tide in a period of six hours. In total there are eight islands.

Another special place is de hunebedden  (the hunebeds)  in Drenthe.

They are at more places in Drenthe.

The oldest hunebed that is found is from 3250 before Christ.

They are large boulders and  earlier they were cemeteries for important people from that time.

Palace het loo (the loo) is a big palace white a huge garden, you can visit it.

It is in Gelderland.

In the link below is a little movie about it in English.

Another special place in Holland Is the city ‘Den Haag’ because our government works here.

The last special place in our country is ‘Amsterdam’ because that is our capital.

The city is in the province ‘Noord’Holland’. (North-Holland)

Answer from IS6, LICEUL TEORETIC NICOLAE IORGA, Romania

Hello!

In our country we have almost everything when it comes to landscapes. We have mountains, hills, plains, seaside, and a huge delta formed by the Danube river (which serves as southern border). The highest mountain reaches 2544m – Moldoveanu Peak.

If you ever visit our country we would suggest to go first to the mountains. You could pick Bucegi Mountains – 2,216m where you can find some beautiful natural shaped rocks as the Sphinx and Babele.

Other beautifully shaped mountains would be the Ciucaş Mountains

and Retezat.

An interesting view you can get on Transfăgărăşan Road or on Transalpina:

Other interesting places would be the Muddy Volcanoes, which are very rare in Europe and St. Ana Lake, the only volcanic Lake from Romania.

After you visit all those mountains you have to go to Danube Delta where you can find beautiful landscapes and a variety of birds and fish.

Romanian forests are well known in Europe for the large communities of brown bears and wolves.

For these landscapes and not only, we love our country. We hope you will like them too.

Best wishes,

IS6, Liceul Teoretic "Nicolae Iorga", Romania

Vatra Dornei is located in north-east Romania, in the south-western part of Suceava County, 110 km away from Suceava, the capital of the county. The city of Campulung Moldovenesc is 40 km away, the city of Bistrita 85 km away, the town of Gura Humorului 74 km away and the town of Brosteni 52 km away. Vatra Dornei is a well known ski resort in the Carpathian Mountains. There are ski slopes nearby the city, attracting many tourists in winter season. Vatra Dornei is surrounded by large forest areas, proper places for practicing alpine tourism. There are mineral water springs in the city limits and its surroundings, that helped the settlement to develop as a spa. In the late 19th century and early 20th century Bukovina had only two spa towns: Vatra Dornei and Solca.

Lake Sfânta Ana is the only crater lake  in Romania located in the volcanic crater named "Puciosul" of the Eastern Carpathians, near Tusnad in the Natural Reserve of Mohoș, Harghita County,Romania.

Palynology studies concluded that the history of Lake Saint Anne began about 9,800-8,800 years ago, at the stage of peat bog and shallow lake.

Answer from IS11, Tudor Vladimirescu High School, Romania

Romania is located in the Southeastern part of Europe, girdling the Black Sea between Ukraine and Bulgaria. It came into being when the two principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia broke the shackles of Turkish Ottoman suzerainty and merged, in 1859, to form a new land - ‘Romania’. Its name, ‘Romania’ is believed to have been come from Rome or the Roman Empire which represents the origin of the country. Surrounded by Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast and Bulgaria to the south, Romania is home to the striking Carpathian mountain ranges that pass through its heart. One of the recent members of European Union, Romania also surprises its visitors with its striking contrasts such as its significantly developed cities and some which look like directly taken from the past. With its sun-kissed beaches, emerald forests, surrealistic history and medieval monuments, Romania remains a very popular tourist destination of Europe.

We’ve searched the most characteristic places from our country and we managed to choose these ones:

Danube Delta

The waters of the Danube, which flow into the Black Sea, form the largest and best preserved of Europe's deltas. The Danube delta hosts over 300 species of birds as well as 45 freshwater fish species in its numerous lakes and marshes.

The reserve is vast in European terms with numerous freshwater Lakes interconnected by narrow channels featuring huge expanses of aquatic vegetation. This is the largest continuous marshland on Europe and the second-largest delta (the Volga being the largest), which includes the greatest stretch of reedbeds in the world. The marsh vegetation is dominated by reeds which form floating or fixed islands of decaying vegetation Reeds cover some 1,700 km2 and the floating reed islands (plaur ) 1,000 km2, whereas the total area not inundated is only 148 km2 . The Razelm-Sinoie complex to the south comprises several large brackish lagoons separated from the sea by a sandbar. The overall basic hydrological and ecological system of the delta, although strongly degraded, is intact.

The higher ground supports stands of willow, popular, alder and oak. There are also sandy areas covered with feather grass and other steppe species. Forest elements are best observed in Letea Forest where a series of bands occur along dunes up to 250 m long and 10 m wide. The delta has been classified into 12 habitat types as follows: aquatic, lakes covered with flooded reedbeds; 'plaur', flooded islets; flooded reeds and willows; riverine forest of willows and poplars; cane-fields; sandy and muddy beaches; wet meadows; dry meadows (arid); human settlements; sandy and rocky areas; steep banks; and forests on high ground.

Over 300 species of bird have been recorded, of which over 176 species breed, the most important being cormorant, pygmy cormorant, white pelican and Dalmatian pelican. There are numerous multi-species heron colonies and raptor species including white-tailed eagle. The marsh tern colonies are especially notable. The delta holds huge numbers of geese in the winter white-fronted geese, red-breasted geese (a globally threatened species with almost all the world wintering population present), teal, mallard and pochard. The delta is very important for fish, with 45 fresh water species present. Otter and weasel are to be found on the floating islands. The Danube Delta is a remarkable alluvial feature constituting critical habitat for migratory birds and other animals. It is the major remaining wetland on the flyway between central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean and Middle East and Africa. It is exceptional for its contiguity of wetland ecosystem and currently supports endangered flora and fauna. The threats remain numerous and include intensive fish farming, shooting, canal and dyke construction and pollution and eutrophication.

Transfăgărășan

The road climbs to 2,034 metres altitude. The most spectacular route is from the North. It is a winding road, dotted with steep hairpin turns, long S-curves, and sharp descents. The Transfăgărășan is both an attraction and a challenge for hikers, cyclists, drivers and motorcycle enthusiasts alike. Due to the topography, the average speed is around 40 km/h. The road also provides access to Bâlea Lake and Bâlea Waterfall.

The road is usually closed from late October until late June because of snow. Depending on the weather, it may remain open until as late as November. It may also be closed, at times, because of weather conditions (it occasionally snows even in August). There are signs at the town of Curtea de Argeșand the village of Cartisoara that provide information on the passage. Travellers can find food and lodging at several hotels or chalets (cabane) along the way.

It has more tunnels (a total of 5) and viaducts than any other road in Romania. Near the highest point, at Bâlea Lake, the road passes through Bâlea Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in Romania (884 m).

Among the attractions along the southern section of the road, near the village of Arefu, is thePoienari fortress. The castle served as the residence of Vlad III the Impaler, the prince who inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula character. There is a parking area and a path to the ruins.

The northern section is used as a part of yearly cyclist competitions Tour of Romania (Romanian: Turul României). The difficulty of this section is considered to be very similar to Hors Categorie climbs (literally beyond categorization) in the Tour de France.

Sighişoara

Sighişoara is a popular tourist destination, due to its well-preserved walled old town. The landmark of the city is the Clock Tower, a 64m high tower built in the 13th century.[4] It is today a museum of history.

Other interesting sights are:

Bicaz Canyon

The Bicaz Canyon (Romanian: Cheile Bicazului -- literally The Keys of Bicaz) is a canyon in Romania, located in the north-east part of the country, in Neamţ and Harghita counties.

The canyon was dug by the waters of Bicaz River and it serves as a passageway between the Romanian provinces of Moldova and Transylvania.

It is a noted location to see the wallcreeper, an uncommon cliff-dwelling bird.

The road along the 8 kilometres of ravines, often in serpentines with rock on one side and a sheer drop on the other, is one of the most spectacular drives in the country. Also within the Chei is Lacul Roşu (the Red Lake), with its traditional cabins, hotels, and its famous lake (situated at 980m altitude) caused by a landslide in the 19th century.

Cheile Bicazului is one of the main rock climbing sites in Romania.

Lake Sfânta Ana

Lake Sfânta Ana is the only crater lake in Romania located in the volcanic crater named "Puciosul" (Büdös-hegy or Stinky Mountain) of the Eastern Carpathians, near Tuşnad in the Natural Reserve of Mohoș, Harghita County, Romania.

Palynology studies concluded that the history of Lake Saint Anne began about 9,800-8,800 years ago, at the stage of peat bog and shallow lake.

It has an oval form and an area of 220,000 m².

According to measurements made in 2005, the maximum depth of the lake is 6.4 m and the sediment thickness is about 4 m. The lake is supplied exclusively from precipitations, therefore the degree of mineralization of the water is very low. The water purity approaches of that of distilled water, with only 0.0029 ml mineral

In winter, the lake is covered with a layer of ice of up to 1 m

Near the lake there is a Roman Catholic chapel dedicated to Saint Anne.

Answer from IS12, OU Kliment Ohridski, Macedonia

Hi my name is Ognen and I come from Macedonia. In Macedonia there are a lot of interesting places that you can visit, both historical and natural. In Macedonian national      parks grows an endemic tree called the “Molika”. It is a type of a pine that usually grows about 30 meters tall but can grow up to 50 meters. Also an endemic animal lives in the national parks of Macedonia, the Lynx. However due to pouching it is an endangered animal and very few individuals live in the national parks.

In the summer a town called Ohrid in Macedonia is the biggest tourist attraction. Ohrid has a beautiful lake and beautiful beaches on it. Ohrid is also well known for the beautiful churches and art in them. Some of the first churches in Europe were built in Europe.

In the winter there are a lot of skiing centers in Macedonia. They have a lot of skiing slopes from green to black. The skiing centers attract people from all over the world. There is also an annual tournament held in one of the ski centers and people from all the world come to participate. One of the most popular ski centers  are Mavrovo, Pelister, Kozuv and Popova Shapka.
