Week 2-3

Each class formulates a question on their Learning Circle theme according to criteria for quality research sponsored question.

IS1, Ahliah School, Lebanon, Question:

We, like most of you around the world, are life-loving teenagers who consider music an important component of our everyday life. The music of Lebanon is a combination of many different music schools from the oriental music of the Arabian peninsula to the Turkish music of Asia Minor and with Persian influences. We have relatively prolific production of music, yet most of us, teenagers, tend to listen and enjoy modern international mainstream songs and music. Why do we do that?
1.  Would you prefer your local, traditional songs and music or International main stream music? would you mind giving some examples of your traditional or local music which you like. And why ?

IS2, Newmarket High School, Canada, Question:

What is Similar / Dissimilar About Our Lives?

Please collabrate with your peers to create and share a collection of images and sounds (maybe a video/slideshow; with appropriate music/sounds or voice over recording) that document “Life in a Day” of a teenager in your country.    Have Fun!

  • In this collection, please include some of the most significant, enjoyable, dreaded, challenging, important, meaningful, stressful, frustrating, and peaceful moments you experience throughout the day.
  • Once we have had the opportunity to view each others’ videos/images, complete a Venn diagram (see links below) to help you record the similarities and differences between teen life in your country and another country.
  • From your observations of the videos and using your findings on the Venn diagram, please answer the following question:

Despite the distance between us and our cultural differences we do share similar experiences, passions, dreams, goals and values.  Decide and explain what you believe is the most similar about our lives as teenagers today?

Here’s a link to a Youtube of director Ridley Scott’s “Life in a Day” (below); the inspiration for this question.  This film documents “Life in a Day” by incorporating video footage from people all over the world during one single day.   (Warning:  some images you may find/consider disturbing/graphic in content.....)

IS6, LICEUL TEORETIC NICOLAE IORGA, Romania, Question:

Hello, everyone!

As we said in our introduction, we love music and adore to take photos.
We can't imagine life without pictures or music... everywhere we look we see wonderful landscapes, everyday we live amazing moments, we hear marvelous sounds and our only wish is to never forget them...
In our country, we have many artists. A few of them are known all over the world, which makes us proud.

A few examples of musicians and composers: Ciprian Porumbescu, George Enescu, Gheorghe Zamfir (also known as "the king of the panflute", he composed "The Lonely Shepherd").

We also have photographers like Hedy Löffler, Dan Lazăr or Mircea Faria.
Unfortunately, we still have many good artists, waiting to be discovered...
Therefore, our question is:

What are the musicians, composers and photographers that make you and your country proud and which one aren't known, but deserve to be known in the entire world? Can you show us their creations?

We are waiting for your answers!

Goodbye and all the best!
